Male Black-headed Grosbeak or Pheucticus melanocephalus IV

A seasonal visitor to our backyard, April last year & this year, is the beautiful amazingly colored Black-headed Grosbeak. The male is colored in this vibrant orange, yellow stripe on the chest, black & white spots on the wings. They're 8" in length, or just a little over 20cm. They only spend their summers here.

This is a very skittish bird. I have to use a blind to get them. He's found my nectarine tree & loves the ripe (kind of) fruit. He's not easy to shoot in the shade either as the background is very bright & he's hiding in the shade in the tree....
