Saving a young Hummingbird......

OK, so I go down to the barn & in Destined's stall I find this hummingbird franticly trying to escape me & Destined. It keeps running into this mesh I've had to put up to keep old neighbors from throwing in "stuff" into Destined's stall. It just can't get out. It's frantic!

Gently with my hands I manage to catch the Hummer. Once caught it kind of "shuts down". So I decide to hold it in my hand gently until it revives. In order to prove to the world that I caught a Hummer with my bare hands I have to take a shot of the bird in my hand. Not easily done. So I have to walk up to the house. Into the kitchen & grab a P&S to take the shot. Unfortunately they don't turn out too well as the P&S doesn't focus too well with me holding the bird in one had & the camera in the other. Needless to say - - no one's around to help me. But I have proof.

Well, the next day it happens again. Another baby Hummer is in the same situation. This time Andrea's home. I call her on the cell phone from the barn & request she comes down with my Nikon Coolpix 4500 I still had. She took this shot with that camera & I have proof to the world that I've caught a Hummer with my bare hands. Now for a second time. But this one is not. This is an Anna's Hummingbird. I can report with joy that both hummers woke up within minutes & flew off with no problem.

I'm still trying to locate the shots from day two.... If I can't locate them at least I have them printed & can refer to those....
